Questions
The Witcher series has always confronted gritty topics that many other RPGs don't -- explicit racism, terrorism versus freedom fighters, sex, and language, subverting stereotypical expectations in fantasy creating an amazingly harsh and 'honest' world of consequences. How challenging was it to push those boundaries since the first game and what corners can we expect the political and more personal nature of the Witcher 3 push players into?
This is a more personal story for Geralt, and those difficult elements are present even in the gameplay demo I watched. They claim you'll cry at some point.
Will Alchemy play a much larger role in the Witcher 3? In the Witcher 2, I opted more for Swordsmanship, Training, and Signs and largely neglected that branch. Will there be specific recipes or additional alchemical skills available by pursuing it that would make it more appealing?
The Alchemy system has been expanded and they hope it will bring more people to that skill tree.
Combat in the Witcher 2 felt button mashy in some ways compared to the first game which felt more deliberate. While it definitely emphasized more action, a la Dark Souls, it could still feel a little too random outside of the bosses. What can players expect from the fighting system to keep it from being too 'action heavy', and will they have the option to avoid combat by talking their way past confrontations or in forcing others to surrender? And will those have consequences later?
They have innovated the combat features to be more like a fighting game. There are new tactical things (like evading) that put the combat more in the players hands. You can still talk your way out of some confrontations, but the wolves won't listen to you if you try,
Saved games. Will the Witcher 3 import these like the Witcher 2 did with the first game? What can players expect in the transition? Will we get a special bonuses or will the story/origin change based on how 'experienced' our Geralt is? Should we save our Geralt at the end of the Witcher 3 just in case? :)
It will on PC, and they have a lot of great ideas of what to do with it. However, there won't be a reason to save the end of your game.
E3 2013 is over. See you next time!
