Horde House

Episode 127: I'm Dutch, what did you expect?!?

The fabulous Sil from Girls Gone WoW joins us on the show tonight to get a little bit explicit with us… but hey, she’s Dutch so that’s what happens! In all seriousness, we talk a bit about the current state of World of Warcraft and what we hope to see come out of Blizzcon next week. An e-mail also asks for our predictions, which we make LIVE on air.

A famous actor from Star Trek is planning to lend his voice to Star Trek Online, and Final Fantasy announces the cost to transfer characters. All this and MORE news and e-mails round out another week on the show about ALL things online gaming but NEVER too SRSLY – HORDE HOUSE!

No, no, and NO again to 40-man flex raids! Remember the problem everyone had with dailies? Even though they were optional, the community (you guys included) labeled them mandatory because the only way to MAX out was to do them all. If raid size scales with gear, that means the only true way to get the best gear would be to run a 40-man raid, and by WoW community logic, that would make them mandatory.

So, NO, you cannot let raid sizes grow larger than 25 unless you are comfortable with that new size becoming the raiding standard and everything else being inferior.

I meant if gear quality scales with raid size, not the transposed way I wrote it.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the more obvious blood pact incentive: Free WoW Expansion. What better way to get people to pay for time spent during the lull before a new expansion than by giving it to them for free?

Of course, I hope my crazier prediction of a free-to-play WoW announcement at BlizzCon comes true so I look like a super-genius, but I'll settle for regular genius if the free expansion w/blood pact thing is true instead.

I thought about saying free WoW expansion, but figured that was a bit too much to give, hence the discount on the digital one instead.

Well if the point is to hold on to as many subscribers as possible (or stop more from leaving during the upcoming downtime) perhaps giving away too much is the way to go. I just think if they want a true big announcement, like giving away a $60 Diablo game was at the time, then that would be the way to go.
