If you are playing Patch 5.3 the Garrosh description isn't really a spoiler. They are strongly hinting at what he is becoming in the live game right now. I personally think it's kind of a cop out, but it's typical Blizzard story stuff, so why would they change now. Can someone just be evil by their own design?

I think it's a huge slap to the face of their (WoW's) fans that someone YET AGAIN was just being manipulated by an Old God (though there's talk that it may not fully be that case and Garrosh is just harnessing Yshaarj's power or some crap). Like, no one can be evil in this game - they all have to be under some sort of influence. This is one of the reasons I don't care much for the story anymore, which was a driving factor in why I still played.

Love that my email got a rousing debate about subscription games going. Shane, you left out one word when defending FFXIV and why it won't fail. That world was "again" as in this game won't go free to play (again) and Square won't let the game fail (again). It already happened so it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

I'm glad the beta is fun and pretty, but we all know MMOs come down to the long haul and this game has a lot to overcome that isn't just fixed by a nice beta. Like I said, I want to play it, but FFXIV 1.0 broke my trust with this company. I need to see real results, and I will definitely sub up if you are all still as passionate about this after a good 6 months.

Maybe failure isn't the right word, and it doesn't need to match WoW's subs, but it needs to be more than just another also-ran MMO.

I actually loved that you brought this up on the show, as I love being passionate about thing, hehe.

So one of the reasons I don't feel like it will be another also-ran MMO (I assume you mean one that is just there and kinda lacking in terms of content, fun, heart, whatever) is because of something you said up there: Square won't let this game fail (again). FFXIV and FFXIII-3 are their headliners at E3. The producer has had the head of Square Enix on his live letters he does almost, if not every, time they put one out (he just did a Japanese language one yesterday and had the new CEO come in for it). They're constantly showing how much this is a priority for them.

I think I have faith in them partially because of FFXI. It was never the best MMO - especially by today's standards - but it never stopped being interesting and engaging (despite the barriers to advance in the game). FFXIV was first made to be nothing like FFXI, and they succeeded in a way they probably didn't want to. Now that it's been redone, and the level of commitment they've shown to the fans in terms of listening and responding to feedback, I think it's on the right path to be a game that lasts at least as long as FFXI has..

Dang lack of catching spelling mistakes. Oh well.

Also, that trailer they just released at least shows they are very much into keeping the world alive and full of story. I think story is such an afterthought for some MMOs besides the overall premise. That's one of the reasons WoW hooked me for as long as it did.

I really hope you're right, I just don't see how this MMO finally breaks the string of post-WoW MMO releases that eventually go free-to-play. I'd still play it once it goes free, but I wish it was buy-to-play at the start more than anything else. The sub games that go free-to-play after starting out as sub games always seem a little gimped to me.

Do you know if they are gonna offer beta access to the PS3 version for Plus subscribers or anything like that? That's all I can really play it on since my computer is old.

I don't think Plus people are getting any benefits. If you watch the new trailer on PS3, however, you get entered to get a key (you could also just register on the site). Also if you want to play, Phase 4 is open beta, so that should be good too.

I think you'll still see us playing 6 months from now, especially after the Arcanist/Summoner/Scholar reveal from today. They look pretty awesome. However, tomorrow morning will be the first time we'll be able to play a majority of the game, so we'll see if my opinion changes at all.

To answer the question Rob posed, no I wouldn't pay for WoW and Titan. But I also don't think Blizzard would be that dumb as to charge separately for two subscription based MMOs at once, like Square is apparently doing. Blizzard has even said as much in the past.

Your one sub for all games idea is great though. I think that would have been a much better, forward thinking idea for Square to implement for FFXIV/FFXI and a way to let those loyal players know that "yes, we know you would be fans of both games, so one subscription covers both." But like Shane said they don't have to, because they are still milking the small but loyal FFXI players that they already made their money off of long ago.

Actually, in 1.0, there was a discount on FFXI''s sub I believe if you were a paying XIV 1.0 player. No one is sure if that will happen again.
