I Love That Song!
A chance to spotlight some of the geek-clectic songs that we can't get out of our head.
Hello fellow readers and video game music aficionados alike! It’s time for another I Love That Concert article! This time we will be talking about Gamacon Symphony, a local video game concert, and Capcom LIVE, produced by Shota Nakama and Tommy Tallarico, of Video Games LIVE. While Gamacon has been an on-going convention and concert for years now, November 5th marked the first ever Capcom LIVE concert in Latin America, ever! So, did it live up to the hype? We will see in today’s article.
It has been a while people but “I Love That Song” is back, and with a blast! This time, we will not be covering just one song but a WHOLE CONCERT! I went to Mexico City to presence the Zelda Symphony of the Goddesses concert and this was my experience.
I have covered a wide variety of genres on VOG’s run of “I Love That Song”, some that I have liked, some that have surprised me and maybe others that have not been that great (“Gimme F”…). Now we have a new genre in store for this article, indie rock, with the band Derpidety. They have a really song, so grab your lawn chair, grab an ice cold lemonade or tea, sit back and enjoy this marvelous track.
Spacechem, you may have heard of this game or maybe even have it on your Steam account and still do not even know of its existence. It is quite a complex yet ingenious game, but hard as hell. While it is an easy game to play, you will get stuck trying to solve all the puzzles in it. While it is very frustrating, and you will feel that your brain will melt, you will feel like a total genius when you get to solve them. The music will pretty much inspire you to do so.
Chiptune is a genre that, throughout recent years, has been growing and developing a lot. When most people think of it, they mostly recall to Nintendo style music with the bleeps and blops (and other onomatopoeia). But I think it is more than that; it is a great blend of styles since the songs can be simple or complex, it can be a hard rocking tune but it can also be a sweet calm melody. Songs that you can emote with, feel passionate about, and enjoy without any sort of visual or action on the part of the listener; like any regular song should be. The “Chido-Chip” compilation achieves that. (Click More... for More)
Many of you have maybe heard of a really huge and widely popular music and arts festival over at Coachella, California. Thousands of people gather there to listen to really famous and not so famous artists and bands play throughout 2 weekends in April and have really great time (or so I’ve heard). Now, what does The Coachella Festival has to do with geeks this time around? Well, this year we kinda have some representation over there with The Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra and Unicorn Kid. Here at VOG, we usually try to highlight indie stuff and not cover what most people already have heard (we are hipsters like that), but screw that! We bring you today two highly grossing and insanely popular artists, Carly Rae Jespen and (Click More... for More)
So the Grammys passed recently, and if you have not been paying attention to gaming news, the soundtrack for the Sony’s best title of 2012, Journey, was nominated for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. For many years, video game music aficionados have wanted to see something like this to happen for many years and now we thank Austin Wintory for it. (Click More... for more)
...Super Mario World’s soundtrack is quite fun and memorable, I can remember most of the songs in the game and be stuck with them for days and not get tired of them. They also help with the flow of the game, pretty much like most (if not every) Mario game in existence.... (Click More... for More)
In the spirit of Halloween, I decided to make an ILTS article related to this scary holiday. And what better way to do it with a really good scary song from a quite peculiar fellow named Voltaire.
Expert in visual arts by day, musician by night, Voltaire has a really peculiar style of music. It can be upbeat and have quite a really catchy tune to most of his songs; he adds a quite dark and creepy vibe to each one. (Click More... for More)
